Earlier this year, we featured Tailored Blinds in our article 5 websites under $5k: our favourite designs of 2025. At the time, the website had only recently launched, so there was not yet enough data to show what the results were.
Today we wanted to revisit the project and share what has happened since.

Finding the right opportunity
Jason is an accountant by trade, but an entrepreneur at heart. After building and running a number of successful businesses, he saw an opportunity in Melbourne’s custom blinds market and decided to launch Tailored Blinds, specialising in custom blinds, curtains and shutters across Melbourne’s east.
He came to us with a clear idea of the business he wanted to build but gave us complete trust over the website and digital strategy. As a result, we shaped one of our website packages around the opportunity. With an initial budget of just $3,000, the website has since generated 49 qualified enquiries, with one customer alone turning into $30,000 in revenue.
Jason’s business model was highly local. He travels to customers for free in-home measurements, discusses the options with them and then arranges the custom manufacture and installation of their blinds, curtains or shutters. That meant geography played an important role in the profitability of the business.
Building a concentrated customer base across Melbourne’s east meant less time on the road and a more efficient way to quote and complete projects. Rather than treating that as a limitation, we built the digital strategy around it.

Using keyword research to shape the website
Before building out the website, we used Ahrefs to research how people were searching for window furnishings across Melbourne. This identified opportunities around searches for custom blinds, custom curtains and shutters, as well as the potential to combine these services with suburb-based searches.
We then used this research to create dedicated content around the products Tailored Blinds sells and the areas Jason wanted to service.
Turning local SEO into an area strategy
Local SEO became one of the most important parts of the project. We had already used a similar strategy for ATEC Electrics on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where dedicated service and location pages were used to improve visibility in the areas the business wanted to target. With Tailored Blinds, we applied the same approach, this time focusing on custom blinds, curtains and shutters across Melbourne’s east.
We created 25 dedicated location pages covering suburbs including Box Hill, Ashwood, Balwyn, Blackburn, Ashburton and Burwood, each creating another opportunity for Tailored Blinds to appear when someone searched for blinds, curtains or shutters in their local area.
This worked particularly well because the SEO strategy aligned directly with the way the business operates. The closer an enquiry is to Jason’s target area, the easier it is for him to carry out free measurements, quote projects and move efficiently between customers.

49 qualified website leads in four months
Between May and September, Tailored Blinds received 49 qualified website enquiries. That works out to an average of 11 website leads per month.
Importantly, we are only counting website enquiries here because they are the clearest to attribute directly to the work we did. During the same period, Jason also received direct phone calls and enquiries through other channels, which the website would have supported indirectly by improving visibility, building credibility and giving potential customers a place to assess the business before getting in touch.
From a $3,000 investment to a $30,000 project
The clearest example of the return on investment came from one customer who wanted a bespoke blinds solution for their home. That single enquiry went on to become a project worth approximately $30,000 in revenue for Tailored Blinds. That project alone delivered a significant return on the original website investment.
For us, this is exactly what small businesses should get from their website and marketing – a way to turn a limited budget into something that can generate a meaningful ROI.
With Tailored Blinds, we identified a clear commercial opportunity and shaped the website and marketing strategy around how best to generate revenue from it. That meant focusing on the services with the strongest demand, the locations that made the most commercial sense and the search behaviour most likely to connect Jason with customers. For a small initial investment, Jason now has a website that brings in enquiries across Melbourne’s east and supports the local business model he set out to build.
